SingSpire helps churches bring people together in their communities, through music. We partner with churches to help them creatively develop their musical ministry, for the benefit of the whole community.
Our vision is to see high quality music being developed in churches across London in ways which help those churches to make connections with their neighbours and promote flourishing communities. We believe that churches have great potential for bringing people together. And we believe that anyone can participate in music and enjoy it.
We have a particular interest in working in deprived and diverse areas, and in areas where little accessible musical activity currently exists.
Our approach is organic – we meet churches and communities where they are at. We work with churches of different denominations. Our programme is church-based, but for the benefit of the whole community, irrespective of their beliefs.
What SingSpire does…
1 – We help churches to set up new grassroots music groups and activities using the tools of community organising:
- Community choirs serving children, young people, and adults.
- Musical early-years groups for babies/toddlers and their parents/carers.
- Music workshops in churches for new and well-established musical groups by professional singers, choirs, and ensembles.
- One-off events, such as community carol singing
2 – We develop resources and models of working which can be readily and sustainably replicated by more churches
3 – We are developing a network of churches involved in, or wishing to explore, community music
4 – We are exploring ways of inspiring a new generation of musical practitioners through apprenticeship and internship schemes for music students
